Welcome to the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year! We had a lovely family day today that started with our usual Sunday morning: a visit to our favorite bakery and a trip to the Trader Joe's. Back at home with a refrigerator stocked full of good food, we enjoyed the spectacular weather with a neighborhood walk and bike ride.

Then this afternoon we sang carols with the San Diego Master Chorale and watched some beautiful ballerinas dancing to the Nutcracker at the Family Festival Concert downtown. Elliot and Owen were both transfixed by the orchestra and the singers and the dancers. And, even cooler, they had an instrument "petting zoo" before the concert where kids could walk around looking at all the instruments on display and try their hand at playing some of them. Owen tried the cymbals and the drums, but particularly loved the trumpet.
Then, this evening we sat by the fire and warmed ourselves with hot cocoa and marshmallows (and Peppermint Schnapps in the cocoa for Mommy and Daddy) while we talked about welcoming winter and enjoying the season of hope and happiness around us.
Here's hoping your day was special too!

What a beautiful picture of winter!!! You need to be here to feel real winter. That hot cocoa would taste even better here with the snow whirling around the house and is 10 degrees outside with 30 to 40 mph winds! Wow!!! We are really into the throes of winter!!!!!
Owen, I hope you will love the trumpet as you get older, also!!! I love to hear a good trumpet player. I might even have to come and hear you play if you pursue it!!
I wish you all a very blessed Christmas! God go with us all!

Thanks for recording this lovely time. I felt warm and cozy just looking at the fireplace picture (it's lovely)! Owen, how exciting! You got to try the trumpet. Grandpa took good notice of that! GG
