Summer, Day 1

Well, yesterday was the first day of summer vacation. And what a day it was!

The boys slept until 8am (enabling me to catch a rare picture of Elliot at rest) and Owen stayed in his pajamas until very late in the morning.

We did some art projects with watercolor pencils, we weeded the garden, and we hung two loads of laundry on the line.
We read chapter after chapter of The Wizard of Oz while hanging in the hammock -- until my throat was hoarse from all the character's voices.

We took a watermelon popsicle break (recipe: blend a whole watermelon, pour into popsicle containers and freeze) and then we planted some more sticks in our popsicle garden and imagined the giant popsicle tree that might grow there by the end of summer.

This, my friends, was all before 2pm....

Sounds like an absolutely perfect day and a great start for the rest of the summer! Fabulous pics of the boys just hanging out! And the one of Elliot asleep is just precious! Oh, it will be a fine summer!

It is ALL so COMFORTABLE! I agree with Nana Liana - the pictures are wonderful and besides that they punctuate the story of the day perfectly. I will have to keep an eye on the "popsicle tree" (BTW those popsicles look "store bought") and what fun to read the adventures of the Wizard of Oz. That ought to stimulate the creative juices. It's a great read aloud story. GG
